Dense rounded crown. Subspecies of sugar maple native to eastern Iowa with dark, furrowed bark and large maple leaves. Black Maple leaves can be distinguished by the undersurfaces, which are downy, and the drooping nature of the deep green leaves. Fall foliage of beautiful yellow, orange, and red. This hardy, hard maple needs to be planted more in our urban landscapes!!
